The Adirondack Northway, Interstate 87, Traverses the Eastern Half of the Adirondack Park, along with old US 9 which runs alongside it, from Albany, NY to the Canadian Border via Saratoga, Lake George, Warrensburg, Schroon Lake and Plattsburgh. The Adirondack Northway is part of NY Interstate 87, which connects New York City, New York to Montreal, Quebec

Includes NY Routes 9N, 73 & 86, Olympic Scenic Byways, from US 9 to Lake Placid Covering Keene Valley, Jay, Ausable Forks and Wilmington too!

Summer's here and it's hot Escape that ugly torrid city to the cooler north country now! It is at least eight degrees cooler than even Albany or Saratoga.

Hot Tips Computer:   Computer running slow? Maybe it is time you backed up the data files, preferably on an external hard drive, and reloaded the operating system, OS after you reformat the computer's hard drive. If that doesn't help, try adding more runtime memory, or RAM.
Auto:   Time to make sure the car is summerized, Check cooling system for leaks and faulty hoses, The top radiator, inlet, hose is the first to go usually.
Outdoors:   It's warm here too, take enough water & some salt too. Light weight but strong pants & shirts are still recommended for the woods for tick and other insect problems., as well as protection from the extra thick brush. Also, keep some good bug repellent around too.
Northway Facts:
  • The Lake Champlain Bridge, at Crown Point, to Vermont, from Exit 28 is closed. There is a free ferry service instead at the old bridge. They are building a new bridge now.
  • The southbound span over the Schroon River, just south of Exit 24 in Warrensburg at MP 66 is being replaced. It is a two lane, one each way, 50 mph zone for now as of 7/30/2010
    Watch out for long delays during weekends especially, like 20 minutes.
  • Southbound Schroon Lake Rest area, one of the best, is now closed.
  • The Southbound High Peaks Welcome center, about M.P. 100, is where Customs does road blocks occasionally
  • The Road is posted 55 mph from the Thruway in Albany, Exit 1 to Halfmoon, Exit 8, about MP 10; it's 65 mph all the way north to Exit 42 in Champlain, where it's 55 mph again for less than a mile before the Canadian Border.
  • Interstate 87 is totally in New York State, though I-287 goes to CT and NJ
  • Cell phone service is dead from Exit 29 north to at least Exit 33
  • It's 6 lanes to Exit 22, Lake George, it's 4 lanes all the way north to Quebec, Canada
    It's 8 Lanes betweens Exits 5 & 6, about 1 mile.

Why the Adirondack Northway?

  • It's a great, long, fun road to drive.
  • There are plenty of interesting places and cool people to meet.
  • It goes through the main part of the Adirondacks and hits all the major towns.
  • The wilderness areas are less crowded than lower NY State.
  • There are good properties for sale at reasonable prices in the Park.
  • It's extension into Quebec goes directly into the City of Montreal.

Northway Vacation Rentals Looking for a comfortable place to vacation in upstate New York? All along the Adirondack Northway you'll find timeshare rentals that are every bit as luxurious as similar quality hotels but cost a fraction of the price. Stay near Saratoga Springs and visit it's famous mineral baths and its Thoroughbred horse racing track. Or head up to the Canadian border via I-87, rent a Quebec timeshare, and satisfy your shopping addiction in Montreal. Just remember, wherever you choose to stay, the Adirondack Northway makes it easy to get there!
